Paint Sound Sculptures

These are paint sculptures which were used in a campaign for Canon, created by creative agency Dentsu.

I had the idea to look this up after seeing it done on the TV show QI. Drops of paint or ink are put into speakers, and when the speakers are turned on, the vibrations cause the ink to bounce up and down and create these patterns.

The vibrations created by the speakers are sound so you could say that these patterns are representing sound visually.

Another example of using paint and colours to represent sound is this Sony advert. The paint explodes out of the buildings in time with the music.
